What’s the definition of prison pen pals you ask?

Prison pen pals are people that are incarcerated that write letters back and forth to others on the outside. Women Behind Bars has been helping female inmates since 1997 find hope in their lives.

We provide profiles, pictures and other pertinent information regarding female pen pals.

Women Behind Bars offers two ways to start a pen pal relationship with  female inmates.

The first is to search through our list of prison penpals and find one or more you wish to write to.

Create a free account for yourself and then order the pen pals address.  You will then be able to download the address and start writing. 

The second way is to have the pen pals write to you first.  That’s right!  You can actually have the penpals in prison write you first.  Women Behind Bars offers a program to where you (on the outside) send us your information and we send it to all of the prisons we deal with.

This fact has remained since our original opening date in 1997.  As a result we don’t believe in adding insult to injury by making the incarcerated pay to get people to write to them.  The minimal fee that we charge for our services keeps the site operating and provides expenses to activities related to helping the less fortunate.  We never have re-occurring billing nor do we share/sell your information with any third party companies.

  • Find someone that interests you ( or more than just one )
  • Click the “purchase now” button after each prison pen pal you wish to contact to add their address to your shopping cart
  • Check out
  • Your address(es) will be available for download in your account under the “downloads” section
  • Grab a pen
  • Start writing to your new prison pen pal
